MAVENT 2006 - Yes, it's that time of year again! This year, we have something different from the usual Mavent Advent Calendar. For 2006 we have something much more interactive - a Mavent Grotto where everyone can take part! Heard It On The X: The latest Los Super Seven project - due for release on March 22nd 2005 - is a tribute to the Border Blasters; the free-form border radio stations with powerful signals that reached across North America and beyond from towers located just below the Texas/Mexico border. The stations operated from the 1930's through to the 1960's and had call letters beginning with the letter 'X'

Joining Raul Malo, Joe Ely, Freddy Fender, Flaco Jimenez and other LS7 members for this project are Lyle Lovett, Delbert McClinton, John Hiatt and Rodney Crowell - to name but a few included in the all-star line-up

Unlike previous Los Super Seven albums, most of the songs performed on Heard It On The X are sung in English

Raul teams up with members of Mariachi Relampago for "The El Burro Song" which is to be the opening track on the album, and for "The Song of Everything" he is joined by Tucson based band Calexico, and the West Side Horns - who also played on the original recording of the song

Tartan Up For A Highland Thing! Paul Deakin will be teaming up with The Felsons for their tour of the UK during April and May 2005, and Robert Reynolds will also be joining the Edinburgh based band as special guest for his first ever solo tour!

A new Felsons album is planned for later on in the year which will also include the talents of Paul and Robert.

Hanna-McEuen News: Jaime Hanna - former Mavericks percussionist - and band-mate Jonathan McEuen, are currently preparing for the release of their debut album. The duo, who are not only cousins but also the sons of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founding members Jeff Hanna and John McEuen, wrote most of their own material for the project. Raul has co-written one song with Jaime and Alan Miller for the upcoming CD, and the first Hanna-McEuen radio single - Something Like a Broken Heart -  set for release on 21st February 2005, was written by Jaime Hanna, Robert Reynolds, and Alan Miller

Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts: Nashville based American Roots Publishing have released their first music CD. The album is a tribute to legendary American composer Stephen Collins Foster.

Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts: The Songs of Stephen Foster, released in July 2004, features artists such as Raul Malo; soul singer Mavis Staples; Nashville singer-songwriters John Prine; David Ball and Beth Nielsen Chapman; and rockers such as Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, Ben Harper and Michelle Shocked.

Raul recorded Beautiful Dreamer for the project.

The Mavs & Mary Karlzen: In 1992, The Mavericks appeared on Mary Karlzen's self-titled debut album on the Y&T Music record label.

In July, Mary began recording her 4th studio album in Nashville - and once again Robert and Paul will be appearing on this new CD, just like they did on her debut.

Paul and Robert have been in the studio recording their part for at least 3 tracks so far. Gary W Tallent (E Street Band) plays on most tracks and John Deadrick from the Dixie Chicks is on most tracks on keys.

The album, produced by Jansen Press, will be finished in September for a January 2005 release.

High 5! Universal Music Norway have released The Very Best Of The Mavericks - an exclusive 'Norway only' compilation CD. The 20 track album debuted at number 5 on the Norwegian chart!

Return to Sin City: Raul will be performing at 'Return to Sin City' - a two night, two city tribute to country singer/songwriter Gram Parsons.

The shows, which will also feature Dwight Yoakam, Jim Lauderdale and a host of other artists, will be held on July 9th at the County Bowl in Santa Barbara, California, and on July 10th at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles.

Bar-B-Q The Music: The Mavericks show at Stubbs Bar-B-Q on 2nd June 2004 is to be recorded for a live DVD which will be released later in the year.

Love Is In The Air: Raul will lead the house band and serve as music director at a concert produced in conjunction with the upcoming six-hour special "CMT 100 Greatest Love Songs" on June 9th 2004.

CMT 100 Greatest Love Songs is scheduled to air on June 13th. In addition to a documentary portion - counting down from number 100 - the final 12 love songs will be featured in the concert starring Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Randy Travis, Sara Evans, Lee Ann Womack, Joe Nichols, Dierks Bentley and Lonestar. The concert will be hosted by Sara Evans.

Tickets for the June 9th taping at Nashville's Gaylord Entertainment Center can be purchased at ticketmaster from 15th May.

Fabulous Fabulosos! 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville was the setting for two nights of fabulous music from The Fabulosos, featuring Raul Malo & Eddie Perez! Raul and Eddie teamed up with fellow musicians Glen Worf, Kenny Greenburg, Matt Nygren, Jim Hoke, Glen Caruba and many others, to play for nearly 2 and a half hours and over 25 songs on both nights - including a chorus of "Happy Birthday" for Glen Worf who was celebrating his birthday on the 24th January.

The Nashville Acoustic Sessions - The voice of The Mavericks, Raul Malo, teamed up with renowned musicians Pat Flynn, Rob Ickes and Dave Pomeroy to record The Nashville Acoustic Sessions - an 11-track CD of classic tunes from Roy Orbison’s "Blue Bayou" to Bob Dylan's "You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go", to Mancini and Mercer’s "Moon River". The collection, on CMH Records, is scheduled to arrive in stores on March 30th, 2004.

The tracks are a perfect blend and balance of traditional pop, country/ bluegrass, and Americana, each chosen to highlight Raul Malo's unmistakable vocals over the pure, uncluttered feel of acoustic instrumentation. Produced in Nashville by John Wooler and engineered by Oz Fritz, The Nashville Acoustic Sessions displays Raul's remarkable versatility alongside the superb musicianship of Flynn (guitar), Ickes (dobro) and Pomeroy (bass). The CD also features the talents of Siedah Garrett (background vocals), percussionist Larry Castro and harp master Jim Hoke.

Other songs on the CD include: Van Morrison’s "Bright Side of the Road", The Louvin Brothers "Great Atomic Power" and "When I Stop Dreaming", plus Gordon Lightfoot’s "Early Morning Rain" and the Hank Williams classic "Weary Blues From Waiting".

The Mavericks: Coast to Coast - Following their successful tour of the UK, which concluded with an onstage 'party' at Brighton, The Mavericks didn't allow the dust settle before commencing their US leg of the tour - no green, green grass of home grew under their feet as they rocked their way State to State, generating an energy that enveloped and captivated their audience in true Mavericks fashion. That same energy continued through 2003 and took Miami by storm as the band perfomed at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater on New Year's Eve - which actually marked a ten year anniversary since they last played at Miami Beach on New Year's Eve, 1993!
